Our day begins in the morning, leaving for the Sacred Valley of the Incas (2800m), birthplace of the Urubamba River, which means “the sacred river.” We pass through several towns and villages that have preserved traces of a prosperous imperial past, to reach the impressive Inca site of Pisaq (3350m): terraces, fountains, neighborhoods, observatories and the largest cemetery in the region (almost 10,000 people buried). A very beautiful complex from which the Incas controlled and dominated the Sacred Valley. This city is embedded between the high peaks of the Urubamba Mountain Range.

Transfer to the Lares valley (3150m), 3 hours by car. With stops along the way to enjoy the viewpoints that the trip offers us. Night near natural hot springs (37 ° C). Provide a swimsuit for swimming and relaxing in the pools.

Day 2 – LARES – ROSAS PATA – COCHAYOC

After a good breakfast, we loaded things onto the llamas and horses to start this new day. We descend through the Lares Valley that leads to the Amazon jungle. The path along the slope offers us a magnificent view of the river below. Our day continues with a climb to the town of Rosas Pata, a small town overlooking the Río Lares valley. With magnificent views we gradually descend towards the Cochayoc valley where the town of the same name is located, which in the Quechua language means “the town that has a lake.” The majority of its inhabitants are shepherds. This is an opportunity to get close to herds of llamas, alpacas and sheep. This is where we meet our hosts for the day. We spent the end of the day with them to learn more about their customs.

Day 3  COCHAYOC – PAMPA WASI – ABRA DE PISAQ – CHALLWACOCHA

In the morning, if the weather permits, we will enjoy a beautiful view of the Terijuay mountain range and the Yanacocha lagoon. We walk through the pastures of Cochayoc to the Cuypan pass (4550m). We continue our way to a place called Pisaq before climbing the pass of the same name. The climb is somewhat difficult but the views are worth it. We stopped near a lagoon to set up camp. From there we can see several snow-capped peaks. We moved to a new family’s house for the night. The community of Challhuachoca was difficult to access for a long time and even today the inhabitants communicate with the valley by radio.* Maximum elevation: 950 m. Minimum slope: 600 m.
