Your Guide Gunnar Lentz

I have always been interested in history and so even as I was a child growing up in the former GDR (East Germany). It is there were I started reading stories about Vikings, Germans and Celts and their famous battles in the northern sea and all along the Rhine and Donau against the Romans.

My interest in foreign languages and cultures starting growing throughout the years and it was just a question of time that I would leave the small city Rostock where I was born after I had passed my high school degree. I didn’t know what journey was waiting for me.

I spend first of all a year abroad in London and found this cosmopolitan city very exciting and inspiring. From here I set out to Israel, Jordan and Egypt. It was one of the most interesting and challenging years I had in my life and I learned really a lot from it, especially about the on-going conflict between Arabs and Jews, but I walked on the Sinai Peninsula and along the Jordan river to familiarise myself with the story of the bible.

Once I had my civil service done in Germany I left again and this time to Italy where I studied History and Linguistics in Rome. I took a foreign exchange year in Spain and once finished left for France.

Here again I began a second bachelor degree in Marketing and Management especially for the tourist industry. A very interesting and inspiring time and Paris is and was a place of a lifetime. In my final year of studying I had to go for an internship abroad and decided to go to Peru. A place that I didn’t know at all and the 6 months period finally become longer and longer.

I finally stay for more than 2 years and was more than inspired by the history, the culture, the people, the food and the experiences which I had almost on a daily basis. At that moment of my life I didn’t feel ready to live and stay in South America, but I knew that I would come back one day.

From 2009 to 2018 I returned to France and Canada, mainly for work and career purposes. In those years I was trained as a photographer and video assistant, which had nothing to do with my studies which I finished before that but these creative arts had always been more than a passion for me. I dedicated more and more time for documentaries and landscape, portrait and street photography beside my jobs as a travel guide and a teacher in Paris and Montreal – Canada. In 2019 I was asked to work for an editor in Mexico and produce a book called “Mexico from above”. The book was successful and I made a second one with the title “Peruvian landscapes in the south”. Other books followed in the next years.

I never left my main activities as a travel and trekking guide. Today I have got a guide certification in Italy, France, Germany and Peru. I even achieved the European Guide Certification in 2021 during the Corona epidemic where I was forced to return to Berlin for almost a year. My activities allow me to combine my skills learned from the different disciplines as history, local tradition and culture, local languages and today most of the time I see myself quite often as a story teller. In Peru there is a lot to see, to learn and to discover and I keep learning from this amazing country and its people.

Through my activities as a Sport Pilot for powered paragliding and through my Motorbike tours I had the exciting and challenging opportunity to take a lot of aerial photography and travel photography on the road in the south and in the north of Peru and throughout all the different climate zones from Coast to the high Andes and the Plaines around the Lake Titicaca and the jungle regions around Manu National Parc.

If you are interested in going on trek around Cusco, please let me know. I organise quite a lot of treks around my newly opened mountain lodge closed to Maras (Spa – Astro – Lodge -Maras). Some of these are just daytrips and others take 2 or 3 days. We try to organize trips that are not commercial and that not every agency knows about. Therefore, we do not operate the famous Inca trail.

My life has always been very active and very exciting as well. Lately and also through accidents I have learned that the Spa and relaxing part in all our lives plays a very big role and so I dedicate more time to activities like Meditation and Yoga activites. I have done several yoga trainings and have lately become an instructor. Yoga is not just a sport, but also a life philosophy and a way of living that I practise as much as I can in my lodge and also with my guests.

Just let me know if you are interested or if you have an interesting project to suggest, or even just a question or comment, please let me know. Since I travel frequently, the best way to contact me is via email or WhatsApp.
